Our Story
In 2019 the Bishop of Llandaff the Rt Rev June Osborne invited the team to plant a City Centre Resource Church in the heart of Cardiff in partnership with the Diocese of Llandaff.
Out of the 3.1 million people who reside in Wales, only 1% currently attend Church. We are a church for the 99% of people who don’t currently go to church, a church where you can belong, no matter who you are, where you’re from or what you’ve done.
On the 25th of April 2021, we launched Citizen Church. A church where belonging matters, where we have a vision to play our part in the re-evangelisation of the nation, the revitalisation of the church and the transformation of society, and where our mission is to break the stereotypes of church, to breach loneliness, to bring people home and to build the kingdom in Cardiff, Wales and beyond.
Citizen Church is part of the HTB network, and is a plant from Holy Trinity Brompton and Harbour Church Portsmouth. We are in the Diocese of Llandaff which is part of the Church in Wales and the wider Anglican Communion.

Christ: Is our Cause
We exist to share the hope of Jesus; He is our cause. We are His people, not religious people, and we will always strive to be more like Jesus in everything we do.
Excellence: Is our Example
We believe we should go big or go home. We don’t plan on going home, so that means we’re going to go big! We want to do everything we do to the best of our ability; we’re on time, we’re engaged, we’re prepared.
People: Are our Purpose
Our heart is for all people, especially the 99% of people who don’t go to church. We make no apologies in doing whatever we can to reach the people nobody’s reaching.
Courage: Is our Character
We are ‘bet the farm’ risk-takers who exercise our faith in any given opportunity. We dream big, pray hard, and will do anything short of sin to get people in.
Positivity: Is our Personality
We choose to be positive people; our cup is half-full, not half-empty. We see every setback as an opportunity, and we are always encouraging. We keep our heads up, and hate gossip and negativity.
Fun: Is our Framework
Jesus’ first public miracle was turning water into wine; He kept the party going, yet the church has a reputation for being boring. We believe fun should be at the heart of everything we do; if it’s not fun then we won’t do it, it’s the framework through which we do what we do.
